The Estes Ready to Fly 1:200 scale replica of this rocket portrays the Project Artemis Block 1 configuration, the first in the proposed series of heavy lift launch vehicles. This kit is pre-assembled, pre-finished and ready to launch, this highly detailed model realistically reproduces the features and markings of America’s next generation rocket for deep space missions. At least you can be sure that your model rocket will launch before the real one does - now slated for November 2021 2022 sometime! Dodo?*

The real NASA SLS (Space Launch System), standing taller than that French lady in NY harbour, and with more thrust than the mighty Saturn V (but not as much as the Falcon Heavy), is ready to return humanity to the moon, and Boeing to potential bankruptsy. Real Soon Now.

Designed to make use of proven (alas antique, 1980s) rocket technology and existing resources (US taxpayer money), the NASA SLS uses modified Space Shuttle main engines for its central core stage and Space Shuttle derived solid rockets for the outboard boosters. The NASA SLS Block1 will generate 8.8 million pounds of thrust at lift off and burn billions of dollars for each flight. That’s enough raw power to carry the Orion crew vehicle, an upper stage booster, and four astronauts all the way to lunar orbit and back... assuming that that it lifts off, ever, at all. We've been waiting a decade already... Maybe next year?

And in a technical and budgetary triumph held over from the 1950s, most of the SLS, once used and used once, is destined for a watery grave. Poor fishes.

SLS and Orion are key components of Project Artemis, the NASA program to land the first woman and the next man on the moon within the next four years... unless cancelled. The NASA SLS is designed as a modular system of components, stages, and payloads so it can fulfill multiple roles in the course of Project Artemis. Subsequent Block 1B and Block 2 versions of the NASA SLS will launch landers and cargo to the moon, and later to Mars where a SpaceX Starship will have the congratulatory champagne already chilled.

Launching your Estes NASA SLS model rocket couldn’t be easier. Prepare your rocket for flight by attaching the included transparent fins and then loading with a C6-3 engine. You can expect spectacular launches up to 200 feet and then a graceful return to Earth under a colorful 18-inch parachute. This rocket looks great whether counting down on the launch pad or displayed on a shelf in a museum of follies. Between launches, show off your NASA SLS with its own, custom display stand.

HERE ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS MODEL ROCKET KIT

We are bundling this Almost Ready to Fly (ARTF) kit with six Klima C6-3 motors and igniters. Klima motors are lighter than the Estes equivalent and offer the full 10Ns total thrust allowed in C motors. Higher flights assured.

WHAT YOU NEED TO LAUNCH:Launch Pad and Electron Launch Controller, model rocket engines, starters, recovery wadding and quality alkaline batteries. ALL INCLUDED!

AGE RECOMMENDATION: Estes model rocketry is recommended for boys and girls ages 10+ with adult supervision for those under 12, and rocketeers of all ages.

Ornithological note: The dodo WAS a large flightless bird. Kinda like the NASA SLS thus far
