We think this is the hottest rocket design to come along for ages. I managed to get PemTech out of the kitchen long enough to send me more kit!
The Krãken (pronounced krã'-kin) is named after the dark and mysterious creature of the deep from the seagoing legends of yore. She is a sleek, black, shapely beauty, featuring a new and unique modified-tube fin construction.
Kraken now comes with either a Nomex swatch or an Ejection Baffle Kit - no more paper wadding!
This highly original model rocket kit flies on any reasonable 24mm power - from Estes D12 to Cesaroni Pro24 or Pro29 Es and Fs. We've upgraded the Kraken to a 29mm motor mount but will include a 24>29mm adapter for those who want to fly on Estes Ds. SpaceCAD recommended and lead ballast (rocket caviar) included for CG/CP adjustments as required.
Although there are no fins in a conventional sense, Steve Flynn's immaculately built and finished Kraken flew in challenging conditions... while others name brand kits had trouble with arcing into the wind (over stable), the Kraken flew straight as a die on an Estes D12. Kraken is perfectly balanced! On an E or an F it is superb... and flies pretty darn high. Consider a streamer recovery... afterall there are no delicate fins to injure :-)
The Kraken kit is well documented and well within the capabilities of a moderately experienced modeller... or a rookie that can follow instructions :-) Sensible additions to the basic kit could include a Recovery Upgrade Kit C.
The 3 inch diameter Mid Power and High Power King Kraken is occasionally available! Tickle this link to take a look if available.
A 12 inch diameter version is struggling to leave the drawing board for a Level 3 attempt! Got the body tubes and CRs made! Just waiting for a quiet moment...
