The Riptide is the blue coloured version of Estes successful starter rocket formula.
The Riptide is brightly coloured (can't hide in the weeds), tough (can handle a hard landing), can be flown minutes after unpacking and is rather inexpensive to boot! That's the formula for beginner's rocketry success in a nutshell (just like the other Estes starter and launch sets!).
Regardless of Estes' marketing flim flam from the over-heated imaginations of corporate HQ, any Estes launch set is a solid, dependable, reusable, SAFE introduction to model rocketry - which is the key to its popularity!
Riptide flies on almost ANY 18mm motor (start with Bs before you go to Cs) and is forgiving as you get the hang of model rocket flying, parachute packing and wind estimating. Motors are not included in this bargain starter set.

The recovery system that Estes includes is the weakest link: the parachute is made out of bin liner material, the knicker elastic shock cord gets fried and you wind up strewing paper wadding all over the countryside.
If you fit an optional Recovery Upgrade Kit B you get a real ripstop nylon chute, bullet-proof Kevlar harness, and a permanent piece of fireproof Nomex wadding.
The Astron II Launch Pad and Astron II Launch Controller included in this set can be used with many other rocket kits from the Model Rocket Shop depending, as always, on weight, motor power and weather.
A helpful instruction leaflet is included.
